I've had a bit of a love-hate relationship with the AT-ST since I was little.
When I first encountered them in RotJ I was both in awe and kinda laughing my ass off.
While on the one hand they were very obviously dangerous they could also be easily overcome by relatively simple means as evidenced by the ewoks' tactics.
Then I played Shadows of the Empire and while the AT-STs were obnoxious during the Battle of Hoth they suddenly became quite terrifying when on foot as they could simply end you by stepping on your goofy buttocks and it made fighting them incredibly dubious at best.
Then the various Rogue Squadron and RTS games came out and suddenly the terror factor of the AT-ST kinda went out. They didn't stand up to X-wings and Y-wings very well, and when part of a joint force fighting a balanced enemy force they weren't very dangerous either.
The Force Unleashed kinda just turned them into a minor nuisance and very nearly a joke in many ways.
Then the new Battlefront games came out.
Now there are many obvious issues with these games and I won't go into all the problem they have. However one thing they got right was the AT-ST.
When one of those things came around a corner and suddenly I found myself staring at four and a half meters of angry Imperial walker I suddenly realized: the scary AT-ST from my childhood was back in full swing as I ran in terror from its pulsating cannons. I couldn't help but feel a degree of delight even as my friend and I exchanged desperate curses over our voice chat.
Battlefront II keeps this going, when Inferno Squad and I in the company of a squad of stormtroopers rushed a Rebel position and realized that they had captured an AT-ST I certainly shit myself as I scrambled for cover while its cannons and other weapons spat at us angrily.
If those games and Rogue One are any indication, the scary AT-ST is back in action.
